Driver Safety & Alabama Truck Accidents
Truck Accident Lawyer Serving All of Alabama
At the Law Offices of Timothy A. Hughes, we are committed to helping truck accident victims throughout Alabama. Although we become involved in these matters after a truck accident has already occurred, we also believe it is important to do what we can to help prevent truck driving accidents in the first place. After all, truck accidents took the lives of more than 4,000 people in the U.S. in 2008 alone (according to NHTSA statistics) and left 90,000 injured.
Unfortunately, there is no way to absolutely guarantee that we will never be involved in a traffic accident, no matter how careful we are or how flawless our driving record may be. There are certain steps we can take, however, to decrease the likelihood that we are involved in accidents with large trucks. Following are a few driver safety tips:
- Never assume that a truck driver can see you. Trucks have notoriously large "blind spots" where a driver cannot see another vehicle in the vicinity. If another vehicle remains in one of these spots for too long, the results may be catastrophic.
- Obey traffic laws at all times.
- Never drive drunk.
- Never change lanes directly in front of or behind a large truck.
- Do not change lands directly into the blind spot of a truck driver.
- If you notice a large truck that seems to be out of control, serving, speeding or otherwise behaving erratically, call the local authorities to report what you have seen. Stay clear of the vehicle.
